Why I Don’t Call Myself a Creative VA Anymore
For a while, “Creative VA” made sense.
I was doing a mix of content, design, admin, social media bits and the usual random small-business jobs that somehow end up in one person’s inbox.
But over time, the work changed.
Most of what I do now is creative.
- Someone sends me a post and asks what the graphic should be.
- They’ve got a promo coming up but no idea how to present it.
- They need a carousel, flyer, campaign visual or something tidied up so it actually looks like it belongs to their brand.
Sometimes the brief is detailed.
Sometimes it’s basically: “Can you make this look better?”
And that’s the bit I enjoy most.
The VA label stopped fitting
There’s nothing wrong with being a VA.
But when people hear “Virtual Assistant”, they usually think inboxes, diaries, admin, scheduling and general business support.
That isn’t really where my business is heading anymore.
I’m not trying to be someone’s all-round admin person.
I’m much more interested in the creative side.
The visuals.
The ideas.
Taking something half-finished and figuring out how to make it actually work.
So I’ve stopped trying to force what I do into a label that doesn’t fit.
So what do I call myself now?
A Creative Partner for small businesses.
Which sounds very grown-up considering some of the messages I receive. 😂
But it actually describes the work much better.
A Creative Partner is someone you can send the idea to without having to work everything out first.
You might know exactly what you need.
Or you might have a paragraph, a rough idea and absolutely no clue what the visual should be.
Both are fine.
I can help with things like:
- social graphics
- carousels
- promotional and campaign visuals
- flyers and branded materials
- image editing
- asset sourcing and creation
- visual concepts
- ongoing creative support
The important bit is that I’m not just waiting for someone to tell me exactly where to put the logo.
I’m helping figure out what the creative should actually be.
Why ongoing support makes sense
One-off projects are fine.
But the best creative work usually gets easier when you work with the same person regularly.
- I get to know your colours.
- Your style.
- The fonts you hate.
- The photographs you’re sick of seeing.
- The things you’ve already posted 47 times.
And eventually, you don’t need to explain everything from scratch.
You can send: “Here’s next week’s post. No clue what the graphic should be.”
Perfect.
That’s my job.
What I’m not trying to be
I’m not a big agency.
I’m not trying to sell you a 38-page brand strategy every time you need a social post.
And I’m not pretending every graphic requires some enormous creative process.
Sometimes you just need something made properly by someone who already gets your business.
That’s where I fit.
Basically...
The business hasn’t suddenly become something completely different.
I’ve just stopped describing it badly.
I’m still Danni.
Still creative.
Still slightly sarcastic.
Still very happy to receive a half-baked idea and sort it out.
The difference is that Creative Partner actually describes the value I’m bringing.
You bring the idea. I’ll handle the creative.
